  • Dense, complex mixes with many instruments in the same frequency range will produce bleed between stems.
  • Solo or sparse recordings — a vocal and guitar track, for example — tend to separate very cleanly.
  • Loud, distorted, or heavily compressed material is harder to separate accurately.

The practical approach is to try the separation and evaluate the output. In many cases, even an imperfect acapella extraction is useful for creative purposes, even if it's not technically clean enough for a professional release.
